One of my favorite holiday traditions is attending the annual Valley Christmas Concert. The concert was this past Sunday and the students did a fabulous job. The Valley Singers were a small but mighty group. Their sound was not only wonderful to listen to, but also pointed forward, showing that Valley choirs will be strong for years to come. The Concert Choir once again sang with high quality. The Concert Band is very young, comprised of freshmen and sophomores, but sounded full and continues to improve. Under the direction of Mr. Jenkins and Mr. Schimm, our students shared beautiful Christmas music for us to enjoy.
While all of this is true, it is not the real reason why the Christmas Concert is one of my favorite traditions. I love the Christmas concert for two reasons. The first is that it points us to Jesus. The music and the scripture that is read remind us of why we are gathered there together. We are together to celebrate the birth of our Savior. The second reason I love the concert is actually a little selfish. In the midst of the busyness of the season, I have the opportunity to sit still and just listen. I hope there is something in your Christmas this year that allows you to just relax, sit and remember why we celebrate Christmas.
