February 21, 2018
Have you ever had a busy week? There have been many times when my weeks are full and it feels like there couldn’t be a busier time. The question I am asking myself today is, how can I slow down to enjoy everything as I go through a busy time? There are some things I want to just check off the list and others I want to take in and savior. I am in a time where there is a lot to do, but I want to be able to enjoy many of the moments.
I am anticipating this week will be filled with many joys. Tuesday, as I write this, is my son Aaron’s 23rd birthday and we are going out to celebrate that as a family. In a normal February week this would be the big celebration, but not this time. Tomorrow is when family starts to come into town as we get ready for my son Chris’ wedding on Saturday. Throw in the Best Practices for Ministry conference at Christ Church this weekend and my wife and I have some additional life-long friends who will be in town that won’t even be at the wedding. Friday night is the rehearsal and then dinner at our house afterwards. On Saturday we will enjoy the big event. So how do I slow the week down enough to actually enjoy everything that is happening?
I think I am feeling what David was talking about in Psalm 21:6. “Surely you have granted him eternal blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence.” The joy comes in knowing God is present in all of the events happening this week for my family. That as we celebrate a wedding we do it knowing we have already received an eternal blessing, one that never ends. Our present joy will be surpassed one day when we are in His presence in heaven. In the meantime we know and feel unbelievable joys because God is present with us as we celebrate this wonderful event.
