Yesterday I was doing my daily Bible reading and was in Ephesians 2. In that book are two of my favorite passages in the whole Bible, verses 8 and 9, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.” These verses remind me that no matter how often I fail, God is there to give me grace. It is a gift, freely given and undeserved. We have a God who loves us so much that He won’t leave us in our sin; instead, He rescues us and provides all we need.

Ephesians 2:10 then leads us to our response to the free gift. “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Grace is a gift we cannot earn. Our good works are the response to that gift. God created us to do His good work here on earth. We are called to love our neighbors, and our enemies. We are called to share the message of a Savior who came for everyone. Let’s praise Him for the gift of grace and respond by sharing His love and doing His work for and with the people around us.
