Merry Christmas! At school we have this excitement about Christmas and all that goes into the preparation for it, but then we add in final exams to stress everybody out. It is an interesting time as students and teachers look forward to the end of the semester and celebrating the birth of our Savior. We are ready to be done, ready for a break, ready to spend more time with our families, but there is still work to be done. Students have final projects to finish, study guides to complete and exams to prepare for. Teachers have last minute grading, exams to write and then correct, and then grades to submit on time. It all adds to this crazy time of year.
But maybe it is actually the perfect example of what we are preparing for at Christmas. We know Jesus was already born a couple thousand years ago; what we are really preparing for is His return. In preparing for His return we should be brushing up and reviewing, making sure all the boxes are checked and assignments complete. We should be studied up and ready. God calls us to wait, and be prepared as we wait.
1 Peter 1:13 says, “Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.” I know this isn’t the typical Christmas Bible verse. However, I think it shares what the Christmas message really is to us today, be prepared for when Jesus Christ is revealed.
I want to wish everyone a Blessed Christmas. As we prepare we also remember Jesus is Immanuel, God with us.
