The beginning of the school year always brings an unbelievable amount of energy. All the students are excited to get the year started. Everything feels new. Teachers spent the summer recharging and preparing for the year ahead. As we head into this year we do it with our theme verse in mind. Colossians 2:6-7 tells us, “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
As we experience the monsoon storms we have a very real sense of why a strong root system is important. We see trees toppled over on the news. While we have the excitement of a new school year right now, we know that at some point the storms will hit. We want to press in to God’s Word and the relationships He provides for us to strengthen our root system. Pastor Jamie talked about this in one of our first chapels; not only do we need the roots, we need them in the right soil. God is that right soil for us.
I love the last phrase of the theme verse as well, “overflowing with thankfulness”. I am so thankful to be back at Valley Lutheran for another year and to see what the journey will bring for us this year.
