Homecoming is always a special week at a high school. We get to see students dressed up in costumes, special BBQ’s take place, the volleyball and football games get a boost in attendance and we get to welcome a number of alumni back to campus. There was something new this year that I haven’t seen in my 10 years at Valley Lutheran, the PEP BAND! If you were at the football game on Friday night you had the chance to hear the Valley Pep Band. The students did a great job and it was fun to see the band coordinate with the cheer team to have fun and keep the crowd engaged.
I love the whole concept of a Pep Band. Its purpose is to engage the crowd and keep them excited about what is going on around them. Life would be better if everywhere we went we had a pep band to get us going. Just like a pep band, as Christians we are instructed to encourage others. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 tells us, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” Take the time today to imitate a pep band; lift someone’s spirits and build them up. We are all a little better off when we feel encouraged.
