This coming week Valley is having its accreditation visit. We are currently dually accredited by AdvancEd and NLSA. These agencies provide oversight for schools to make sure we are providing the education we are supposed to as a high school. Every five years the cycle repeats itself and a team is sent to the school to make sure everything is in order. The accreditation team will be here on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and will observe teachers, go through our files and paperwork, check our policies and do all they can to examine our school. The real question they are trying to answer is, “Is Valley Lutheran the school they say they are?”
Jesus never had to go through an accreditation process, but there were a lot of people who questioned who He really was. There are a few distinct times in scripture where the true identity of Jesus was uncovered for those around him to see. One was at the transfiguration where a small group of disciples had the chance to see Him in His glory. There were the times when he questioned the people around Him and asked them who they thought he was. As I look at it I focus in on Jesus’ baptism and how in that moment the identity of Jesus was revealed. Matthew 3:13-17 tells the story of Jesus’ baptism. It concludes with verse 17, “And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased.’” From this point on we knew Jesus was God’s Son. All the accreditation He ever needed came in these simple words.
