  • How will my student grow spiritually?
    Spiritual opportunities abound as we practice “Learning, Serving, and Sharing Christ.” All students take theology classes which are designed to meet the needs of young men and women. In addition, all students and staff attend chapel twice a week. Chapel services include a variety of worship forms, including a split chapel for boys and girls, a small group discussion setting, and our frequent contemporary style. Chapel and small groups are led by teachers, student groups, area pastors and youth leaders, and other special presenters.
  • What are the school hours?
    Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
  • How does the Block Schedule work?
    Students are enrolled in eight classes, taking four each day, ABCD Block or EFGH Block. Classes are typically 85 minutes in length.
  • How does the school communicate with parents?
    Each week you will receive a Parent Bulletin from the school containing general parent information, announcements, items of special interest and information about school activities that provide parents with opportunities to become more involved. Parents also have access to Google Classroom and PlusPortals which enable parents to view their students grades and access to assignments.
  • Are there academic scholarships available?
    Valley Lutheran encourages all families to apply to the Scholarship Tuition Organizations listed on our Financial Aid page. Beyond that, there are a few opportunities for students to earn academic scholarships at the end of the academic year.
  • Is there an accommodation plan available for my child?
    Valley Lutheran High School offers an accommodation plan for students with learning disabilities. For more information, please contact the school office.
  • Is there a dress code?
    VLHS does not require uniforms. Students are expected to dress in a manner that reflects the Christian environment of the school and as outlined in the student handbook dress code policy.
  • Is transportation available?
    Valley Lutheran High School provides point to point transportation before and after school from several locations in the Valley. Click here to see the route schedule. There is a monthly fee to use Valley transportation.
  • What is orientation camp?
    Each year the entire school goes to Prescott, AZ to camp for three days. Camp is a way for all our students to build relationships with one another as well as their teachers. They participate in activities such as zip line, high ropes course, hiking, horse shoes, archery, arts & crafts, human foosball, and many more activities. Along with the many activities that are offered, students will participate in Chapel every morning and evening.
  • What is interim week?
    Interim classes are one-week courses offered in the spring semester that allow students to experience a unique out-of-the classroom learning environment. Students are required to enroll in an interim class each year. Classes may be offered in areas related to Fine Arts, Industrial Arts, Physical Education, Sports, Humanities, Science, Math, Computers, and Theology/Service.
  • How is lunch served at VLHS?
    Lunch is served to VLHS every day by a non-profit organization that benefits charity. The cost for lunch per students will be $5 each day. Students may bring their own lunch as well.
  • Where are you located?
    We are located just 1/4 mile north of the 7th Avenue/Camelback METRO Light Rail station (see map), and Valley Metro transit busses stop nearby. For more information, please visit the Valley Metro website.
  • How are students evaluated for admission to VLHS?
    Students are admitted based on: Transcript evaluation Letters of recommendation Interview Application essay
  • Is there an entrance exam?
    VLHS does not require an entrance exam. A freshman placement test is given to determine Math, English, and Science class placement. Placement for transfer students is based on the transcript from the previous school.
  • Does Valley Lutheran High School accept transfer students?
    Valley Lutheran High School does accept transfer students. An interview is generally required for admission as a transfer. Please call the school office for more information.
  • Do I have to be Lutheran to attend Valley Lutheran?
    No. Approximately 55% of the students at Valley Lutheran High School are Lutheran.
